Hi to all. Our family got to talk to Kyle on Christmas Eve. It was Christmas morning for him. Charlie and I talked first then each of his siblings got the chance to call him. We've come up with a system that allows each family to talk to him then we all call each other to compare notes. We all love to hear his voice and his nieces and nephews particularly enjoy talking to their missionary uncle. Our conversation was very relaxed as we were able to have a two way conversation. His laugh is still awesome and I can just imagine his whole face lighting up as he laughs. One thing that we all noticed was that his voice sounded so much older than we remember. When I called - he answered but I didn't know it was him so I asked to speak to Elder Stubbs. He started laughing and said "Mom. It's me!" Apparently the same thing happened to Kim! Kyle thought it was very funny. Below are a few interesting things we fund out during the call.
The air force base in Okinawa is the largest air force base outside of the US. He said they cannot go on base unattended but that the members there are often having them over to teach investigators. The base is really nice and the base housing there is really great. The members always want to help the missionaries so they help them by getting their groceries from the base commissary.
He said the Japanese people don't celebrate the Christianity part of Christmas but they do some of the commercial things. They all have Kentucky Fried chicken for Christmas dinner. They order it ahead and it's a big deal. I wonder if they think that's what we have for Christmas dinner!!!!
Also there's a member there from Louisiana and they had jambalaya at his house for dinner recently. Kyle loved it. The member didn't realize Kyle would be returning to us here in Thibodaux, LA.
Kyle's new companion plays the guitar too so they have that in common and Kyle also has a ukelalee (probably not spelled right) now too. We laughed because he will have so many musical instruments to bring home that he'll have to leave all his clothes!
